Topic: “Legacy Business Area Transportation Management Association (TMA)”

The Legacy Business Area is a major employment center in NW Plano. Current development underway includes several additional corporate headquarters and a mixed-use town center. The study was two pronged – determining future infrastructure needs and developing transportation management strategies to help reduce traffic demands. The study included the analysis of 50 intersections, stakeholder engagement with an online survey and two committees, prioritization of infrastructure recommendations, and discussion on the formation of a transportation management association.

Speaker: Tom Grant, P.E., PTOE – Kimley-Horn

Tom Grant  is a professional engineer and PTOE. He went to the University of Florida for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and started working at Kimley-Horn in 2001. He began his career in Florida, but has called Texas home since 2008. Tom is very active with the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and is the secretary of the Markings Technical Committee. Tom’s professional career includes traffic engineering and transportation planning for a variety of projects in the public and private sectors. Project types include multi-modal plans, corridor studies, traffic impact studies, interchange access justification reports, traffic signal designs, and intersection designs. Much of Tom’s efforts are related to improved mobility for all modes of travel..

Speaker: Dr. Christopher Poe, P.E. – Texas A&M Transportation Institute

Dr. Christopher Poe is the Assistant Director at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute for Connected and Automated Transportation Strategy.  He is leading connected and automated vehicle, intelligent transportation system, transportation operations, and toll road research projects at TTI.  Dr. Poe received his BS and ME degrees from Texas A&M University and his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University, all in Civil Engineering.  He has also taught university courses in transportation engineering at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Texas at Arlington.  Dr. Poe is a licensed engineer in the State of Texas.

Topic: “Improving Traffic Safety – A Multidimensional Approach”
Speaker: Srinivas Geedipally, Ph. D, P.E. – Texas A&M Transportation Institute

Dr. Srinivas Geedipally is an Associate Research Engineer with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He has more than 10 years of experience in traffic safety research and has participated in numerous traffic safety research projects with state and federal governments and international sponsors that are worth more than 6 million dollars. Dr. Geedipally has been a key contributor in the development of the Highway Safety Manual (HSM). He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2008, and he holds a M.Sc. degree in Traffic Environment and Safety Management from Linköpings University, Sweden. He is the winner of TRB Fred Burgraff award  and a two-time recipient of the Young Researcher Award from TRB. Dr. Geedipally is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. So far, he has more than 40 papers published in high-standard international journals and conferences.

Speaker: Marques Allen, P.E. – HDR

Marques Allen, P.E. is a Senior ITS Engineer for HDR, Inc. in Dallas and has been in the industry for 10 years. His career started with TxDOT under their engineering rotation program where he gained experience with roadway construction and traffic design (ITS, illumination, and traffic signals), and then went to work for Kapsch TrafficCom as a systems engineer where he received invaluable field experience with ITS and Tolling. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University. He is actively involved with DFW Professionals Chapter of National Society of Black Engineers as the Telecommunications chair.

Speaker: Tyler Wacker – Kimley-Horn & Associates

Tyler Wacker is a project analyst with three years of experience providing traffic modeling, traffic operation analysis, and design services. He has successfully produced two-way conversion feasibility studies, private development traffic impact analyses, and bicycle facility conceptual design. Tyler has experience in helping private developers, municipalities, and public improvement districts with traffic operation studies and bicycle concept planning. He has completed the McKinney and Cole Avenue Two-Way Conversion and Knox Street Comprehensive Studies and the Union Trail Bicycle Connection between Katy Trail and Klyde Warren Park.

Doug JonesDoug Jones is the Managing Director of the design build program for Texas Central Partners.  He has been in the construction industry 40 years.  Prior to joining Texas Central Partners he retired from Balfour Beatty Construction after a 34 year career.  During this career, he began in project management progressing to positions of increasing responsibility.  Doug was most recently the CEO of the Balfour Beatty’s Central Region, comprised of Texas and the surrounding states.

Doug holds a B.A. in Construction Management from the University of Florida.  He has served on various boards, most recently Downtown Dallas, Inc.  He is also a founding member and past chair of the Construction Industry Outreach Advisory Council, an organization which promotes diversity in the construction industry.
